all that road going.

forgive the hiatus. school's out for summer and we're currently bumming around the midwest for a conference (paul's), an article assignment (mine) and some mike-sells potato chips.

but tonight i've caught a minute to upload some photos (and lodge some sour cream and green onion crumbs into the keyboard). before we skipped town, paul's people (two generations worth!) came to see us in kansas. we accomplished a lot in one week, striking a few items from our to-do-in-southeast-kansas list (which is longer than you might think).

we finally rode the trolley! through the old neighborhoods, the national cemetary, and historic downtown. we were feeling the hometown pride.

...and then we felt like barfing. chicken annie's is one of the 17 famous sek chicken joints. our new favorite and just an obscene amount of food.

file also under: finally. toured the fort. learned about frontier life and some early american wars. (bonus points for being gus friendy!)

oklahoma joe's. technically in kc. technically heaven on earth. don't you dare die without eating at ok joe's.

while in kc, root for the royals. until they fall behind by 17 runs. then you sulk out during the 6th inning and drown your sorrows in a club sandwich.
after all that, we needed a rest. instead we hit the road, logging more than 1,000 miles in the last five days. we're a little sleepy but mostly thankful to be traveling again. staring at road maps, driving through cornfields and seeing who can hold it the longest.

results will be published at a later date.
